I have read this book at least 4 times over the past 4 years. This book was the first fictionalized version of the angel's perspective of "The Fall". Overall, the book is cinematic in its vision and language, which is what attracted to the book in the first place. Wendy Alec has a beautiful imagination and uses that imagination to flesh out a fully developed angelic world. I also like Alec's ability to maintain dual storylines, something that she carries into the next book of the series. Even though, I disagreed with some of her theological points, this was a treasure to read and re-read. I hope to complete the series soon! (I've only read the first 2 books so far!)
We often center our attention on our own perspective. How does this affect me? What should I do next? What will it be today? In this series, I appreciated the perspective because it is not very often that we take a larger view of what could be causing things to happen as they are in our world. Our viewpoint even as believers is very humanistic and shallow. This takes us beyond and reminds us of a real struggle that we are caught up in due to the fall of man and God's plan of redemption. It is important to see the roots of all earthly struggles of good and evil. Very well written with detailed accounts of activities of angels and demon forces as well as the heavens. Also, a very plausible look into why Lucifer is still allowed to come before God with accusations and requests that are considered.

When I first began reading this book, I put it down, considering it drawn out and over-worded, hard to follow. I came back to it and realized in rereading from the beginning that I was in err. The beauty and detail were pulling me in to a world that is as easily believable as walking out into my yard. I do not have a sympathy or desire for Evil but I have wondered at the past of Satan before the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden. I think this book tells a very epic story and love lost through evil and jealousy. Something more relatable than we usually care to admit.
I enjoyed the story very much but found it to be a bit too descriptive at times. also seems to have a fascination with the words "orangeries and jacinth". again, overall I enjoyed the story very much but wish she would tone down the overly descriptive sentences because it seems to me as if she is using them as filler. I'd rather read a shorter story that spent more time on the story and less on the size of the diamonds rolling up on the beach.
