This scholarly treatment of the life and work of the apostles leaves me with an enduring sense of awe for the way God entrusted the message of the gospel to them. Shelton's in depth portrayal of their legacy is truly inspirational. This book gives me a new appreciation of the legitimacy of the apostolic authority of the New Testament as Scripture.

Really enjoyed reading about each apostles supposed journeys and how each was marked by a faith to purse and to spread the message and gospel of Jesus Christ to the world.

I absolutely loved this book! So much of what happened to the Apostles after the ascension of Christ is speculation, and has driven this Bible Nerd absolutely nuts. "The Quest for the Historical Apostles" was such a treasure. The author's drive to find the factual truth behind the Apostles was refreshing and mirrored my own heartfelt quest to learn more about these astounding men. But the author's drive and determination to stay true to authenticity is what drove me to the end of the book. It was a brilliant journey, one that I will happily reread again in the near future.

I quite enjoyed the journey the Author took me on, as we waded through History, Legend and Myth in a search for the fate of Jesus' disciples. From my youth, I have always "wished" that Luke had given us more info about what happened to them - even with Paul at the end of Acts, we have him under house arrest and still carrying on his ministry.I also enjoyed how the Author frequently relates some of the more colourful "acts" that are written in various Apocryphal and Pseudepigraphical works - and I also appreciated the fairness with which he treated many of these works.It would've be nice to have a few more chapters (or a followup book) that covered people such as James (the brother of Christ), Mary (the mother of Christ), Barnabas, Luke, John Mark, Apollos, etc...This book is well referenced and indexed - which I always like :)

As a Bishop whose specialty is ecclesiology, I've read several books about the historical Apostles.Out of all I've read and referenced, this text is one of the best.The format and structure of the material is presented in a manner which balances narrative and reference. It's both a handbook and a story.The scholarship is wonderful with an abundance of citations.

This is a wonderful addition to the literature on ballet. The auther makes her apologies in the beginning for not being able to include some noteworthiy teachers, but the ones she was able to cover are great. The information provided gives us valuable insight into the aesthetic principles of these great dancers and teachers. This should be useful to all dancers, whether they teach or not. Some very esoteric facts can be found here as well, such as why Balanchine likes the fingers and hands held the way he does and why many don't like it that way. I had taken some classes with a Mr. Schabel and discovered his claim to fame in these pages. The Great Jean Babilee is even discused. You might also get some good ideas for further reading in this book as I did.

I love this book. Very detailed and readable accounts of great teachers of the 20th century. There are sample classes from the teachers in the back which are very interesting to study. A must have for all aspiring dancers and veteran teachers who need a little inspiration.

There is not a more thorough, thoughtful book on teaching ballet anywhere. A must for teachers and students. Photos instead of line drawings. In depth explanations with many excellent dancers photographed.

Good read for ballet teachers. I wish I had more time to dive into this book. But I read a chapter here and there. I feel like I am there with those master teachers. Great service. I received it on time.

Every ballet teacher must own this book. You will gain enormous insight into how 10 master teachers pass on the art of ballet to their students. You may not be drawn to the teaching styles of each teacher but you will learn something from everybody. Each chapter begins with a short essay in which Ms. Warren weaves what she learned from interviewing the master teachers about how they developed their method of teaching with specific accounts of what she observed in their classes. Each chapter concludes with "Classroom Quotes," the order of exercises in a technique class, and the pedagogical lineage of the master teacher. At the end of the book, Ms. Warren includes several exercises constructed by each of the master teachers. For non-teachers, this book will give you renewed appreciation for the work that goes into making a dancer.

This is the most comprehensive collection and explanation of ballet technique available today. Ms. Warren is a ballet scholar of the highest order. I recommend this book to all my serious, older students; it is an invaluable reference book for any serious ballet student or instructor. Every step is fully explained and clearly photographed, demonstrated by professional dancers. A great scholarly and practical book.

After having this in the car for a couple months, my kids have become obsessed with license plates! We are frequently ordered to drive around the block again because the kids didn't see the origin of an out of state plate on the first pass. Sure they have learned all sorts of facts about the United States, but now they want us to plan road trips to capture one's we haven't seen. Where does it end?In all seriousness, this is a really fun activity that reinforces geography and state facts. It makes long road trips or even trips across town more fun. I wish the cards had a binding or a ring to keep them together, but it's also fun for each child to have a few cards to read separately from others, so not that big of a gripe. Pull the trigger on this one if you're thinking about this purchase, you won't be disappointed.

My granddaughter wanted to start keeping track of all the plates she sees so this turned out to be the best thing I could find. It gives you a plate for each state as well as facts about the state. My daughter is really into license plates. These cards are well made with lots of great info on the back like capitals and info about each state

This is a gift for my son's seventh birthday. I think he's going to LOVE the large, colorful images and state statistics on the reverse. The "book" is actually individual cards bound with a red cord, so the heavy-weight cards can be read or displayed individually. My only complaint is that our home state's plate is out of date by several years.

License plates have vibrant colors and tidbits of information that made learning about the United States extra special for my summer camp children.

My grandson loves these! We look for license plates when on the highway or in parking lots. He likes to learn lots of facts about each state that are found on the back of each plate. Some of the plates have changed... This is not a 2012 edition... But it is still great.

Dr. Khanna has written an excellent book, which deliberately takes Western readers out of their comfort zone, challenging many assumptions and yet offering a view of a new, multi-polar, Asian- centric world. A key chapter - an homage to Lee Kwan Yew - highlights the critical importance of technocratic meritocracy, and makes a key point, that governance and outcomes are the coin of the realm in Asian politics. Any understanding of today’s key Asian leaders - Xi, Abe, Moon, Kim, Modi, Jokowi, and others - need take this point about leadership into account. Overall, this is a fine and very worthy book, and Dr. Khanna’s views will be widely shared and conjure forth ample discussion.

This book deserves a wide readership not only in Asia but also in the west. Many western readers will find some of Dr. Khanna's incisive insights deeply disturbing but those insights need to be grappled with. Western readers ignore Dr. Khanna's important work at their own peril. Even western nations can learn much from what he has to say about the need for technocracy in any functioning government. My only caveat about the book is with the last chapter where the author fails to include Chinese science fiction writer Liu Cixin among the important Asian writers who are having a wide impact upon readers in both Asia and the west.

Before reading The Future is Asian, I had no idea of the advances being made in Asia in governance, business, and culture. In his examination of Asian investments around the world, Dr. Khanna explained that business competition does not have to be a zero-sum game. His description of the problems with American democracy was on target. He explained how successful government can work with a synthesis of democratic and technocratic elements.Dr. Khanna’s writing is clear, and he gets to the point.

Who’s the audience? This is a dump of everything learned by everybody imaginable without clearly separating fact from findings or observations. It is obvious that much research has gone into this to collect and report all the information. A PhD in Asian History may like the beginning chapter to refresh him/her with details of an era he desired; you get the author’s attempt to list all the “Asian” events from the beginning of time. I, on the other hand, was anticipating only something discussing how recent events and actions throughout Asia affect the goal of globalization. Instead, I was presented with a case study, somewhat biased, pitting the Western blunders vs. Non-Western successes. I wanted to know what plans the Asian countries have already initiated and are planning to employ to enhance globalized, worldwide relationships. This would have given me insight to private business changes, my investments, and America’s efforts to synchronize relationships towards a successful global integration.A consultant needs to analyze ALL the findings relevant to predefined hypotheses of conclusions. Many of the findings in this book are bias toward Asian thinking which distorts the formulation of facts needed by the individual seeking global unity. Conclusions are sketchy against a synchronized global plan.Despite the struggle I had to get through this book, it did make me think ALOT. The knowledge before reading this book was already adequate to understand the issues hindering the efforts of globalization. The last thing I needed was that the West is still trying to colonize the world while the non-west is opening it up (but, not to the West) with THEIR only objectives in mind.Sorry, I’m not impressed with the pain-staking effort that apparently went into the research of this book when the message is ambiguous and conflicting at times. Way too many words and pages to get what should be a message to the West to pay ample attention to the world, seek ideas coming from the non-West, and together formulate plans for successful globalization. I certainly wasn’t the audience in mind for this book.Reviewer: Rich

I do not agree with some views but this is probably the most important work educating all of us about Asia. Yes even for Asians who think they know Asia. The economic realities are there and can easily be confirmed through internet searches but Dr. Khanna was able to present it with wholistic coherence.The writing style can easily be understood by the layman but the depth of insight is very valuable.

As a long-time American expatriate living in Asia since 1990, I enjoyed the intensive research and distilled wisdom in Parag Khanna's new book. In Khanna’s view, not only has the “Asian Century” already arrived, but it is taking shape through economic and diplomatic relationships that are maturing much faster than many in the USA see or understand.Khanna considers this to be a positive development for the region and the world, showcasing many Asian efforts to maintain stability for business growth, including for American multinationals who see Asia as an essential high-growth market.I have witnessed firsthand the personal dimension of Khanna's proposition, as enterprising Americans and Europeans have moved to Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as emerging hubs like Bangkok and Jakarta, where they are settling down to start regional companies and live genuinely global lives.There is much in this book to consider including history, economics and cultural insights. A timely, useful, and optimistic guide to the new Asian world order.
