I should have noticed the publishing date: The stats go to 2011. Its small in size and few in number of pages. It can't really be a gift by its self, so I'll have to add to it. Or not give it at all. It's in perfect condition, but seems more like an item from a garage sale because it's so dated.

I bought this as a gift to my 10 year old grandson who loves football. I thought it was a book. When we opened it and found a pamphlet we were both very disappointed. My grandson looked at it and then put it down never to be looked at again. On the picture it certainly does not look like a few pages without a binding.

My son wasn't a motivated reader...until I purchased "The World's Greatest..." books. He read to me every night and progressed two reading levels in a very short period of time. The story provided facts that aren't seen on t.v., giving an intimate knowledge about the celebrity.

A little shorter than I expected and my 8 year old raced through it but he loved it. He's a Steelers fan, so it took me a minute to get him past the cover but once he started reading he loved it!

This book is written for kids but is very readable even by adults. Great stories and well told. My little guy loved it and I'm sure yours will too.

One get's the impression from reading the cover of this 38 page book that you'll learn to read Russian in only 5 days. Well the author is obviously a lot smarter than I am and/or he learned his at a much younger age. After working on it for about a month approximately 15-45 minutes per day, I'm beginning to slowly get the grasp of it. There are only 5 Russian letters that are the same as the English language, that first chapter was a breeze. Each of the following 9 chapters, it progressively gets a lot harder. I found I had to re-train my mind, for example Cyrillic alphabet "C" actually makes an "S" sound. It only gets worse the farther one gets into the Cyrillic alphabet. This has been the hardest part about learning this new alphabet for me. I bought this book because I plan to go to Russia next year. I feel it will be helpful in my skill of reading the Russian language a little. Hopefully when I get there I won't find it so intimidating. As far as being able to speak it, well no CD with the pronunciation comes with this book.That would of been really helpful.

It is better than anything I have found so far. I like how the pronunciation is included otherwise I would be no better off. This is the first day I have actually sat down to read it and I honestly can say I believe it will work for me

If one can speak Russian but have problems with reading and writing. This book is perfect.

An interesting book if you are trying to learn Russian fast. However, the technique is not so great. There are pages with lists of words to memorize and hopefully build a Russian vocabulary on. However, without the use o any audio CD's this book is very limited in usefulness. It does present the most useful Russian words but you can get these off the internet. Only buy it if you nee it for a Russian library.

Good book but too updated in its conducting concepts. Need for a new modern book for Universities.

Despite the rather high cost of this book, I found the examples and the instruction to be very thorough and comprehensive. Book is very informative about what the person has to learn inorder to conduct a piece of music. It also shows how to stand with the body, how to conduct different time signatures and has pieces to practice with. This book is very good and I would recommend it for a student in school or as a review.

It came fast in the mail so that was great. I gave it 3 stars because the binding was a bit broken. Other than that the pages of the book look great :)

Both of my girls are avid swimmers and mermaid lovers and so I thought I'd give this book a try. I didn't give much thought to the reviews or the history of Annette Kellerman (which I didn't even know about)... after the first read, my 6 y-o asked if Annette was still living so she could write her a thank you note for helping women become athletes and for helping women be comfortable in the water. My 10 y-o asked to bring the book to a swim team sleep over so she could share it with her 4th, 5th and 6th grade peers. They were both totally blown away by the thought that once covering legs was mandatory and that Annette was arrested in Boston. I appreciate the discussions this book has brought up in my family including geography, history, familial support, what it is like to have true endurance and passion and, most importantly, how following your dreams can be incredibly difficult but nothing should get in the way even if there are impossible hurdles to jump. I plan to give this book as future gifts and feel it is appropriate for ages 3 to pre-teen. We have only owned the book a short time and we have read it over and over and I have overheard both of my kids talking about Annette. This book has made a positive impression on both of them. I highly recommend this book!

This is a fantastic book about a young woman who overcame a disability and "made waves" in her time and place. This book was a gift from a friend to my daughters, and we have since read it hundreds of times. The pictures are wonderful, vivid pictures that tell the story as much as the well written text. I purchased this book here as a gift for a friend. I hope that it is re-printed again soon. If not, it's still totally worth your while to find a used copy.

this is a totally gorgeous book and furthermore evolved from a true story. It is beautifully and dynamically illustrated and very well written.

The title Mermaid Queen is certainly appealing to any little girl, no?! My daughter sat for the book at age 3 and 2 years later it's still a reread for us - with vivid bright pictures - entertaining fonts. A storyline of a girl told she won't make it in a man's world and with a disability who triumphs internationally in her field - making "waves" among society and leaving her mark on the world. It is a fun and fast read of a historical time and lady.

My third grader chose Annette Kellerman for an assignment, so we had gathered quite a bit of info on her. This book does a nice job of summarizing facts in a way interesting to a 9 year old girl. I did want to provide some background about the Victorian Era and women's role then in order for the child to fully grasp what Annette accomplished.

Love all of Shana Corey's books. Great girl empowerment narratives with punchy writing and fun, engaging illustrations. A perfect antidote to the troubling messages girls get from many books and media. My daughter loved them, and now I'm getting them for my niece. Highly recommended!

I bought this for my avid swimmer girl, thinking she would love to know the story of this woman. It is a short, but well done book.
