This atlas was a disappointment. I'm a retired vet who lived in Germany for 6 years, and I'm a seasoned traveler who prefers to use a map over GPS.I did a lot of driving in Germany over a 3-week period during a recent visit. I found this atlas too "busy" and difficult to use. In other words, too much information is crammed on a single page. The city maps were also difficult as they were either over-zoomed, or not enough. For example, the city of Munich zoomed hard on the city center, and then too far out on the rest of the city to be useful. I ended up buying fold out maps in Germany, which turned out to be far superior and cheaper.This atlas is better than nothing and fine for major roads only, but I opted to leave it behind at the end of my vacation. I kept the maps I bought in Germany for the next trip.

We used this atlas on a recent trip to Bavaria, Austria and the Czech Republic. While it was good, generally speaking, I found it lacking when compared to my French and Italian versions. It did not show all the smaller routes we sometimes needed to take or details regarding exits and roundabouts. Also, we often found road signs differed significantly from the road numbers and labels given in the atlas. Fortunately, we had a GPS system in our rental car which we relied upon heavily, especially in Prague and Vienna.

Good maps. Certainly easier to use than folded Michelin maps, which are so large you can't open them up inside the car. I wonder why Benelux was included in this Atlas when the main focus of the volume is central Europe. Since I will be in the Balkans, Austria and southern Germany, I've removed the Benelux pages to lighten the atlas.

Great coverage for region but can be tough to locate POI or cities/towns. There’s so much detail packed into a small area that it makes it difficult to find info.Fortunately, this was a paper backup to GPS so I didn’t need to use for primary navigation.

Good book, we didn't realize that the bulk of this is written in German though. Great maps and pictures, I just can't comment on much of the writing.

My quest was to find 2 small German villages which were the birthplaces of my ancestors before emigration to the U.S. This atlas was essential, and we were successful. In spite of the weight added to your overseas luggage, I recommend buying before you leave. You will need an atlas as soon as you drive across the border, and you don't want to be clueless.

good atlas but most of the touristy areas I wanted to visit were located on the inside spine so were not helpful.probably will not take it on my trip because it is very heavy and way too nice to tear apart.

It should come with a larger fold out map. As long as you can stay on one page you will be ok. We used GPS but a good map is helpful to get the big picture. If you have a phone that works well in Europe i would recommend using Google maps.

Scrambled Egg Chilaquiles 8 large eggs 3 tablespoons whole milk Pinch of salt ¼ cup shredded Cheddar cheese 3 corn tortillas 2 tablespoons canola oil 1 large poblano chile, seeded and cut into thin strips 2 ripe tomatoes, chopped MAKES 4 SERVINGS   In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, and salt until nice and frothy. Stir in the shredded cheese. Set aside.   Stack the tortillas and cut the stack in half, then cut each stack into wedges or crosswise into strips about ½ inch wide. Set aside.   Put the canola oil in a cast-iron skillet or large nonstick frying pan and set the pan over medium heat. Add the chile and cook, stirring often, until softened, 4 to 5 minutes. Add the tortilla wedges and cook, stirring constantly, until they begin to brown, about 2 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium-low, pour in the egg mixture, and cook, stirring often and scraping the pan bottom to prevent sticking, until the eggs are set but still moist, 2 to 3 minutes longer. Gently stir in the tomatoes and serve right away.

Bought all four of the American girl cookbooks. I got these books for 8 & 10 year old girls. At first glance I thought the books might be too young for their ages as a lot of the pictures of the children doing the cooking are very young. But after looking through the books more thoroughly the pictures include kids of all different ages and ethnicities having fun in the kitchen. I like that each recipe shows a picture of the finished product. These are simple easy recipes for young chefs.

I got this for my 10 year old for her birthday and everything she has made has been great! Instructions are simple and easy to follow but the book is not too juvenile (It would be great for adults too!). The pictures are beautiful and helpful. My daughter has made the waffles, crepes, and pancakes successfully. She tried to make the cinnamon rolls and the cinnamon sugar donut holes with some issues...the donut batter was too moist (did not keep its shape at all...big sticky mess but she just scooped it into the fryer and they tasted good...not sure if she measured something incorrectly or what!) and her cinnamon roll dough was very tough so we tossed it out before finishing the recipe (may have been user error as we were out of AP flour and used bread flour instead). She is excited to try more!

These are such lovely cookbooks, beautiful pictures and easy to read recipes. My granddaughter had checked them out of the library first and loved them, so that became her birthday present.

Beautiful photos! My daughter loves looking through this cookbook to be inspired to cook or bake! The only drawback is not every recipe has an accompanying photo.

Really nice cookbook for school age girls. My granddaughter loves her American Girl Doll, and this cookbook is first rate, just like the rest of their products. The photos are beautiful and the recipes have been great. I have given her several cookbooks from American Girl, and every recipe that she has tried has been wonderful.

My daughter got this for Christmas because she loves making us breakfast. She has used this cookbook weekly, if not daily. The recipes are easy to follow and very good.

This caused the secretary to lose faith in the true nature of islam. Surely the Koran was not all made up, was it?Overall, a quick and revealing introduction-level work into the Koran. Strongly recommended, especially for those islam apologists who so seldom show any real knowledge of the work at the center of the ideology.

I read this "Cliff Notes" version of the Koran, then I reread it and underlined significant passages. My thought, since 9/11, is that main stream conventional wisdom didn't really tell us a true picture of Islam. What did we all learn in College about the Koran? Academia has told us the Koran is just like the Bible. Educated adults that I have encountered have said the same thing for the last forty years. There is an overlap, but to say the two books are just alike is poor scholarship. The story of Moses is mentioned 39 times in the Koran. I find it particularly instructive that the Koran's telling of the role of Jesus. " The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary is only Allah's messenger". Therefore the role of Jesus, according to the Koran, is to announce the coming of Mohammed in the 7th century. "Far be it from Allah to have a son." These means that Christians, according to the Koran, have their scripture in error. In the Koran there is one set of rules for the Muslim believer and a different set of rules for the unbeliever. Therefore there is no "Golden Rule" in Islam. I have three books by the premier scholar of the middle east, Bernard Lewis. The writings of Bernard Lewis are a trusted source for people of the middle east. He provides good information, but in a way that is very sympathetic to the Muslim community. Overall it seems the facts of Islam that Academia has presented to us are "sugar coated." The author. Bill Warner, identifies these Academics as apologists. I think Bill is right on the money.

The material is very good and well written. There is a fair amount of overlap with other books by the same author which I have read, and thus not too much info is new. If you have never read any of the books by the author, this would be a good introduction.

Dr. Warner's makes the hardest part of Islam to understand easy.If you want college level theology classes, read all of Dr. Warner's books and watch his videos on YouTube. I learned more about Islam or free (or very cheap) from him than I did from a $32,000 a year religious school. He changed my mind - that rarely happens. Like him, I've yet to find anyone who can disprove his facts or logic, yet many still reject his conclusions. It is sad to see ideology triumph over academics.I appreciate that his presentation is both historical and Humanist.

This book simplified the Koran. Islam is overwhelming our multi cultural society but I couldn't understand why until I read this book. It also made it crystal clear to me that it is a faith perfect for hooligans and marauders derived from Judaism, Christianity and Arabic values, used to confuse the vulnerable and reward tyrants. The most eye opening thing to me was Mohammed himself, an anti-Christ if there ever was one.

Easy to read but not simplistic. This book will give you the basics of Islam's support of slavery and its hand in slavery since its inception. Everyone needs to have concise accurate info on Islam to understand world, national and most likely local events to evaluate correctly what you are hearing.You need to understand the Quran has two parts and it still incomplete for Islamic doctrinal guidance.

This is an objective book on how to read the Koran. I read the Koran last year. Then I found this helpful booklet as a guide to re-read the Koran (which is organized by chapter length). This is one wonderful book for new keyboard learners. The Beatles a easily my most favorite group and this is a collection of my favorite tunes.I am 67 and play the guitar. I thought it is about time a learn to read music and play the keyboard. I like the size of the notes. When I find a song I want to learn I blackout the letters on the notes. At first they were very helpful but now I do not want to be dependent on them. The piano chords a displayed above each song. At this point I am only playing with my right hand but I am starting to add the left hand chords.Overall this "SuperEasy" songbook is ideal for beginners like me. I only wish there were more title available and full song lyrics.

My wife kept asking for sheet music for our new piano so I thought she'd love this, but she tells me that this is only music for the treble clef, or one, single hand of playing. Still, there's something special about hearing her rendition of Golden Slumbers echo through the house.

This is a great book for beginners. My daughter’s piano teacher was happy when we brought it to her lessons. Even I managed to plunk out a few cords thanks to the easy guide. I’m sure even more advanced players would like it.

Nice, really simple piano songbook for beginners of Beatles music. I was able to pick out some of the tunes after a couple days playing piano. Yes, I could already read music but this book is really easy.

As such, I scour Amazon's selections for good indie and traditionally published works, I sample 'em, and I buy the rare treasures that compel me to continue reading beyond the free 10% sample. FALL passed my selection process, and I'm happy to have burned through its pages in a matter of hours.Hay has already enjoyed significant praise from sources such as Chicago Sun-Times, so I won't go into detail about his credentials as an author. Nonetheless, he is selling FALL at a modest $2.99, which is a ridiculous steal for such quality writing.The new cover art is especially striking, and the title remains ironic and intriguing. Hay has crafted a modern and original questing tale, filled with compelling characters and rich dialogue. (Immediately, one gets a sense of the tale's originality from the description.) Here's what struck me most, though--and what secured my decision to toss $2.99 into Hay's laptop case: The man knows how to turn a phrase. He understands craft, and the prose is as delightful as the story. (I especially loved Chapter 6--well done, sir.) In essence, Hay manages to combine the pacing and tension of a paperback genre novel with the language, rhythm, and imagery of literary fiction. It's impressive, and I wish more authors could pull this off.In terms of criticism, there are a few moments when I needed to flip back in order to understand why a character made a certain choice, but that's mostly due to the fact that we're dealing with biblical characters who have rich histories in religious and secular literature. (Allusions abound, by the way.) Also, I was surprised by Hay's interpretation of Lucifer, which goes against the usual suave and clever depiction--this one is ruled by his emotions, to say the least--but that's entirely a matter of taste.Readers looking for beautiful scenes of the afterlife and celestial existence should stop right here. In Hay's universe, angels aren't any wiser than humans, and it could be argued they are much less wise, in fact. As far as divine justice ... well, let's just say that there's little indication that good is always rewarded while evil is always punished. Got a problem with that? Too bad, the author seems to suggest. Heaven's in political turmoil, Eden's a wreck, and Earth's got some real demon-trouble. One might wonder whether God's plan is working out so well. On the other hand, maybe the struggles faced by Hay's band of unlikely heroes are exactly what they need in order to rise above the sins of their collective father.Or, maybe they're just screwed.Give FALL a sample and figure it out for yourself. Also, it's the first in a trilogy and as every avid reader knows, the first book is the foundation for the next two, and that means not as much action as the next two.My first memory of church was crying as everybody acted weird and freaked out. Men in suits running in the aisles. A rock band on stage. Random strangers snapping upright to speak in some weird language I had never heard before. People staggering to the stage towards the outstretched hand of the reverend...Full Gospel Pentecostal hardcore churching, baby. So I've always been a little obsessed with the Bible.FALL tackles what the Bible doesn't - and that's putting you right inside Heaven with the angels. DSH handles this overwhelming world with solid writing, carefully crafted scenes, and flawed angels.I was so happy when I realized these otherworldly creatures - these godlike deities - had personalities and feelings that I could relate with, and were not handled like one dimensional stoics.Grounding these golden monsters is Maggie, and her very real dealings with the loss of her beloved husband. Maggie is a book unto herself, and she is a beautifully drawn, lifelike character that rings true in every sense. She takes us by the hand and guides us through the grand story of Heaven and Hell. I would follow Maggie into any novel, she is simply that wonderful.You can read the other reviews and get the plot. I will admit to also losing my way in the second half of the book. There are many philosophical musings, conversations, angel names, alliances, story threads and suspicions here. The deep reader will be fine. I stumbled a little, but I have attention issues.I can say that I agree that Lucifer was handled like I have rarely seen, maybe never seen. He is at once arrogant, then charming, then sad, then monstrous, and at times, very human. He is a complicated, ferocious, petulant beast. Considering God created humanity, it is understandable that he would inspire his other creations with the same traits...with considerable power behind them. Knowing that, imagine the complexity of DHS as an author that he handles each of his characters with the same grace and command of realization in his writing.Many emotions come into play during this book. My favorite parts were when I felt DHS let loose the power of Lucifer and the Fallen. These scenes were scary, and subtle, and fast. Perfect.No, this is not an action packed fantasy novel. This has scope, vision, and is the first in a trilogy. I will definitely get the next two novels. DHS deserves a standing in the ranks with the popular fantasy writers of our time. High in the ranks. He brings a literary quality that is all too rare and when discovered, is something to follow.

I'm pretty picky about urban fantasy-style books that use characters from a well-established pantheon- if you want to write Lucifer (a name which refers to a star and, metaphorically, to a city, but never, in the Bible, to a person. that's the kind of picky.) according to popular modern beliefs, tread carefully. If you want to write Lucifer as something entirely different, get a helmet and some steel-toed boots.This book, does many things that I worried were impossible: it tells a new and interesting story within the Judeo-Christian pantheon; it combines traditional beliefs, modern pop-Christianity, and something a little different into a spin on Christianity that is actually fun and not forced; and it makes Lucifer into a sympathetic character without completely remaking him. Also impressively, it maintains God as being omniscient and omnipotent without these qualities obliterating the plot.I found some parts of the plot difficult to follow, probably because I was reading too quickly in a hungry attempt to find out what happens at the end.All in all, if you enjoy reading Biblical characters in dark, urban settings, this could be a good book for you. It's a similar flavor to Neil Gaiman or Piers Anthony (Incarnations of Immortality, not Xanth).

Where Is the Mississippi River?   On July 4, 2002, a forty-seven-year-old man named Martin Strel took a swim in a small lake—Lake Itasca—in northern Minnesota. Lake Itasca is where the Mississippi River begins. It is the top of the river, which ends 2,350 miles farther south in the Gulf of Mexico.    Martin Strel had always loved being in the water. As a child in the Central European country of Slovenia, he had spent most of his time swimming in streams and lakes and rivers. When he wasn’t swimming, he spent his time reading. He loved to read about rivers. He was fascinated by faraway rivers like the Danube in Europe, the Yangtze in China, the Amazon in South America, and the Mississippi River in the United States.   One of his favorite books was called The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain. It was about a boy growing up beside the Mississippi River in Missouri. Huckleberry Finn takes a trip down the river on a raft. Someday I will swim in that river, Martin Strel thought.   Martin Strel never forgot his dream. Someday he would swim the entire length of the world’s great rivers, from the top to the bottom. Martin kept training. In the year 2000, he swam the Danube River, through ten European countries. One thousand eight hundred sixty-six miles in fifty-eight days. No one had ever swum so far in such a short time.   After that, Martin was determined to swim the Mississippi. No one had ever done that before, either.   Martin learned all he could about the river. Like all rivers, the Mississippi twists and turns and shifts and changes as it flows south, so it is hard to pinpoint its exact length, but Martin knew he would be swimming about 2,350 miles. He was hoping to swim from five to twelve hours a day.   Martin began his swim at noon on July 4, 2002. People cheered him on from the banks of the river. He swam through or around in ten states—Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Martin didn’t quite finish in as short a time as he had hoped. He swam for sixty-eight days instead of sixty-six.    Today, as Martin Strel swims the world’s rivers, he works to help people understand the importance of clean water.   “My target is to see happy fish swimming in the water,” he says.      Chapter 1: The Mighty Mississippi     The Mississippi River is not the longest river in the United States. (The Missouri River is longer.) But it is the most famous and it has played a large and exciting part in United States history. Many Americans think of the Mississippi as dividing the eastern and western halves of the country. They describe it as having three parts—the upper, middle, and lower.    The Upper Mississippi runs from Lake Itasca to Saint Louis, Missouri, where it meets up with the Missouri River.   Lake Itasca is 1,475 feet above sea level. That means water flowing from the lake will drop down 1,475 feet by the time it reaches the Gulf of Mexico. Think of a single drop of water moving from the top of the river to the bottom. That drop of water will take about ninety days to complete its journey. (Remember, it took Martin Strel only sixty-eight days.)   Lake Itasca is the narrowest part of the river. Leaving the lake, the river water meanders gently east for about sixty miles, where it passes through another Minnesota lake—Lake Winnibigoshish. (Try saying that three times fast!) At that point, it is about eleven miles wide, the widest part of the river. From there on, the water begins its long drop to the Gulf. Catfish, paddlefish, walleye, carp, bass, and pike swim there. Kayaks and canoes paddle through whirlpools, waterfalls, weeds, and rain along streams and lakes too shallow for the barges and steamboats that work the river farther south.    In the busy Twin Cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, the river becomes deeper. Larger boats carry people and goods south, past small towns and acres of farmland.   The Missouri River drains into the Mississippi from the west, just north of Saint Louis, Missouri.   The Middle Mississippi runs from Saint Louis to Cairo, Illinois, past lush farmland and small towns. This stretch is not long—only 190 miles—and doesn’t twist and turn.   In Cairo, the Ohio River drains in from the east and the Lower Mississippi begins. This part of the river runs from Cairo to the Gulf of Mexico. One thousand miles. It flows past Memphis, Tennessee; Natchez, Mississippi; and New Orleans, Louisiana.   South of New Orleans, the Mississippi continues for another one hundred miles. This is a vast area of shifting wetlands called the Mississippi River delta. The delta has been forming for about seven thousand years as mud, sand, rocks, and dirt spill from the river. Thirteen thousand square miles of rich, fertile forests, marshes, swamps, islands, and open water.   Fresh water and saltwater come together here. Migrating birds stop here. Endangered species like Louisiana black bears and green sea turtles struggle to survive here. Shrimp, oysters, tuna, and other fish live here. Cattails, spider lilies, and other plants thrive. Alligators slide in and out of the water. Many people live in this area as well.   Finally, after more than two thousand miles, the Mississippi River reaches the Gulf of Mexico and comes to an end.
