About the Author

Kim DeLozier grew up living and working on his family's farm in eastern Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science. He began his career with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 1978 working as a wild hog hunter. Kim retired in 2010 after 32 rewarding years of service in wildlife management. During his career, Kim's involvement primarily focused on nuisance black bear management, wild hog control, white-tailed deer management, small animal management (skunks, raccoons, bats), and re-introduction efforts for elk, peregrine falcons, river otters, and red wolves. Kim married his high school sweetheart, Donna, over 36 years ago. They have two wonderful children, Carrie and Travis, and four precious grandsons, Baylor, Duke, Turner, and Fox. Kim and Donna currently live on the original DeLozier farm in the same farmhouse his Dad was raised in. They feel extremely blessed! Carolyn Jourdan is the author of three Wall Street Journal best selling books and is also a #1 Amazon Best Selling Author. Â Carolyn is a former U.S. Senate Counsel to the Committee on Environment and Public Works and the Committee on Governmental Affairs (now Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs). There is also a first volume, "Bear In The Back Seat I," which is equally engrossing. I happened to read the two books out of order, but that didn't ruin my enjoyment of the stories. There is nothing better than reading first-hand accounts of working with nature. The ranger who coauthored these books devoted his life to caring for the bears and many other creatures that inhabit the forests of the southern USA. These books should be required reading for everyone who plans to visit a state or national park. The main lesson thread that runs through each tale is: in the parks and reserves, you will be a guest in the home of some amazing animals, so treat them and their home with respect. Don't feed the animals, don't litter, and don't behave like idiots by approaching them. They are wild, not tame. Admire them from afar, then leave them in peace.

I enjoyed this series of stories about handling animals (and humans) in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Though the author makes light of some of the challenges of managing the animals, particularly bears, there is also a consistent message that the animals normally only become dangerous if they've become accustomed to being fed by humans. Some of the vignettes are humorous, some more serious, but they all seem to be told with authenticity and directness. You get no sense that the author is making this stuff up just to sell books ! In fact, the book does take on a rather documentary quality at times, when I felt a more personalized language, and perhaps some dialogue and quotes, would have made it more appealing and memorable.Some of the interesting passages that I highlighted in my Kindle copy of the book include:"If I had to choose an animal to come back after I die, it would be a river otter. They seem to play all the time."..."we smeared Vaseline on the back of each cub to try to mask any human smell on them. We hoped the mother would wake up and lick the cubs to clean them.""Male bears are naturally programmed to kill every cub they find in an effort to maintain dominance in their territory."

In 1 1/2 hour after entering Yellowstone I watched a parent sending his child closer to a huge moose for pics, men ((15?) Chase buffalo across a field and another group chasing a herd of elk. Kudos to Ranger Jane? Arriving in a cloud of dust sliding sideways across the road between men and elk screaming in her mike GET IN YOUR CARS IMMEDIATELY!! My husband says we're leaving before I have to see someone hurt. .15 minutes later we saw a rescue helicopter coming in. Two more came in the next two hours . (Buffalo gorings ) . We watched Old Faithful and then drove out of the park. A trip we had planned band expected to enjoy ruined almost by humans and shortened to only one day. How sad that otherwise intelligent people can become so stupid. Old Faithful made it up for us by having the biggest blow in years! What power and majesty! I hope people begin to respect our Parks and the rules. By telling way first piece of information handed to us on entry bright orange sheet saying DO NOT CHASE THE BUFFALO. Thanks for a great book ,doing your job protecting us and trying to educate people about safety in our Parks!

Bear in the Back Seat II, was a wonderful read. I live around Bears here in Alaska and they are amazing creatures. Everything written about how to enjoy our bears is true and mostly important, is how to protect the bears from thoughtless humans. It always amazes me how sometimes the worst offenders are the people who know better. #1..... Don't feed the bears. The Ranger in this book brings his world alive and invites you in it and you begin to see that #1 law is the most in important rule to follow. Through this caring Ranger (Kim), you experience the joy and the sorrow of trying to manage a wonderful animal and sometimes us thought humans. Some of the stories are funny and warms your hear, other stories makes you stop and see things differently. You'll begin to appreciate all of are Wildlife Rangers and the dangers they encounter to protect us and the Wildlife.This is a great read and I am sure you will see Wildlife experts as the real Heroes they are.L. I worked in Yellowstone in the summer of 2000. I didn't have any close encounters with a bear. But walking a boardwalk through the woods, I came upon a mama elk. She was the most beautiful tawny color - like a deer. As I stopped & realized she was way too big for a deer, her head popped up. I was probably 70 yards away & backing up, talking nice to her, when she covered half the distance in the time I'd taken 5 steps back. Trying to remember advice given at orientation I figured I was in store for a hoof beating. Suddenly she turn off the boardwalk & put her head down to apparently check on her calf. I was 54 & didn't run any more, BUT I TURNED TAIL & RAN!!! This book was so interesting as he dealt with the wild animals under his care. Sometimes riveting & sometimes funny. I loved my summer in Yellowstone & after reading this book, I'd like to spend some time in the Smokies & Shenandoah.

Another great read! I purchased both Bear in the Back Seat I & II as Kindle versions. Very rare for me to read a book a second time but I enjoyed these so much I will most likely buy both books in paperback format and read them again! While vacationing in the Great Smoky Mountains, I stopped by the Sugarlands Visitor Center and was told by an employee that there will be a Bear in the Back Seat III. I have not tried to confirm that but I hope so! With 32 years as a ranger in the GSM, Kim DeLozier must have stories to fill 10 books! His passion for his job and love of animals is so admirable. Thanks, Kim for your hard work and dedication to provide quality of life to animals and so many improvements to the park for our lifetime to enjoy and for our children/grandchildren.

This is normally a complete, valuable and reliable resource. It was written as boiler plate before Congress radically changed the tax laws at year end. It is of very little value for this year and as of 2/1/18 has no updated information. It should never have been published.

I would like a full credit issued to my account. The book has nothing to do with 2018 taxes. It is clearly for 2017 and i was mislead when i ordered it. The information does reflect the tax laws and changes that went into effect after December 31, 2017.

I'm disappointed I purchased. Assumed it would have the new tax law information within the book since the title says "Tax Guide 2018" and even includes a sub-title on cover saying, "Latest 2017 tax law changes at your fingertips." Misleading.

The product is misleading. While it's titled "2018" it is for the 2017 year. Be careful, or you'll just end up paying for return shipping for nothing.

I buy these every year. Good reference books.

Although this is normally an excellent resource, due to the late changes in the tax laws it is ineffective.

This is not a beginners book. But if you have been down the road before it is brilliantly written. It is mathematics, but not overbearing.The author covers numbers, analysis, computability, the key elements of current day mathematics. He does so in a very readable manner focusing on reverse theory, namely looking at the results to see the assumptions. Hilbert and his Geometry was to some degree to me a similar task a century ago. But instead of being ponderous the author is succinct, clear, and understanding. I found the analysis section and interesting interpretation having spent time decades ago in the area.For anyone interested in a different view of mathematics this is an idea addition and very well worth the read. As another reviewer wrote, the first chapter is easy, the other challenging but well worth the effort.

The author describes this new area very well. A great introductory book. He starts with natural numbers and gets all the way to reals and set theory. I like the way he transitions from set theory to Godel and computation.

The content is OK, but it is not formatted to read like other kindle books. In fact , you can't even read it on the Kindle. It is readable on the PC but even that is awkward and kind of "flaky" because the controls can give inconsistent results. If you are serious about this book, I would recommend the hard copy. The Kindle version is just very annoyingly awkward.

More importantly, however, the reader gains an appreciation of why the field of reverse mathematics is so interesting and important. What does it mean for a theorem and an axiom to be equivalent within some base system? Is there a single underlying argument that is shared between all proofs that lie on the same axiomatic "level"? A prerequisite for answering questions like these is a basic understanding of elementary formal systems and of computability theory.Professor Stillwell provides all of this in a surprisingly self-contained book that is fun to read. He starts with an illuminating history of several upheavals in the foundations of mathematics that are analogous, and lead naturally to, what reverse mathematics is doing today. He then dives into the prerequisites I mentioned above. Computability turns out to be a natural base for the theorems of analysis and therefore much of the book is focused on teaching computability theory.The first chapter may give you the impression that you can quickly turn the pages, but make no mistake: this is a math book. Depending on your background level, you may have to put significant effort into understanding the concepts. For example, I had absolutely no knowledge of computability theory, so I had to do a lot of re-reading, and working out of concepts on my own, in the appropriate chapters. Likewise, if your knowledge of analysis is rusty, you may have to spend extra time on Chapter 3, where Stillwell provides the classical proofs of the theorems that will take center stage later. All the information is there however, making this book a great stepping-stone to more advanced treatments of reverse mathematics for someone with only an undergraduate level background in math.

This is the standard Little House on the Prairie book with the only difference being that the book is a hard back with dust cover and all of the illustrations by Garth Williams are in full color.You can certainly find the paperback version with the black and white illustrations more cheaply, but I wanted this particular version to read to my girls because I noted when I first started this series with them, the old fashioned language and concepts were hard to follow and they lost interests. The colored pictures seems to make the story more interesting for them, and they are more engaged. Not sure if this is really due to the pictures or completely random, but the book is beautifully done, and from a personal perspective, I really like it - I loved the series as a child, but had never seen the pictures in color - added a nice touch for me as the parent reading the book each night.

Bought this for long car rides -- so much better than a DVD! My 5, 12 and 17 year old all love it. The reader does a great job. She has a very clear voice and you really get into the story. She's not monotonous but also isn't overly theatrical. We have all really gotten engrossed in this story (which I didn't expect). I enjoy this greatly and enjoy that my kids are into it. My middle son has read the story, so it's great for him to hear it as well :)

The story centers around Almanzo and his brother Royal and his sisters Eliza Jane and Alice. (Laura his eldest sibling was 22 and living elsewhere and his youngest sibling Pearly Day was not yet born). Almanzo's love of horses is a center theme of the book which takes you through the seasons in a farmer boy's year. What amazes me is the lack of waste back then. Nothing was wasted. Oat straws were used to make summer hats, apple cores were saved to make vinegar, ashes were saved to make lye soap, and the fat from the pig slaughter is used to make tallow for candles and other uses.Unlike the Ingalls family, Almanzo's were for their part quite well off. They had large barns, a nice house with a parlor, upstairs bedrooms, and an icehouse. The farm sat on a large track of fertile farmland. Father bred driving horses as well as farming and Mother wove cloth for the clothing they wore. If you read just one chapter.... read "Keeping House". Such a funny story unto itself it will make you want to read the whole story. In conclusion, a delightful book from my childhood that can now be shared via Kindle.

Although I should most probably relate to Laura being female and also raised on the prairie, I truly relate to Almanzo more. From age six forward, all I wanted was horse of my own, and later one I could gentle and train myself. And eventually the dreams became reality. Now I have seen my youth and prime adult years come and go, and as i reread this beloved book in front of the fire as the snow fell outside of the farmhouse I now own, I am transported back to the first time I read the book, when Almanzo and I shared a dream and am reminded dreams really do come true. Please share this series with any child you love so they can know it too.

I borrowed these from my Grandma as a teenager and read them and fell in love. I soon got my own set of books but it gives me great pleasure to have them on my kindle and give my beloved books a rest. I love these books and they are timeless classics. I love the color illustrated pictures on the kindle it gives the story even more life. Farmer Boy is my favorite of the books.

Loved it. Fun and interesting. Seemed a bit short to me, but still enjoyable. Ages 10- and up. I do suggest, but you should read the first one first.Don't listen to the people who say it's boring because it's definitely not. It just for older kids. Please don't make reviews saying "my 5 year old got bored" of course they would they're 5 at least wait till they can read on their own.Kids 10+ it's great. Girls may like it more.

These books were read over and over to me as a child and remain some of my favorite as a parent. I purchased this one for my own kids and they love the pictures throughout the book. The story itself is so well-written and so easy to fall in love with at any age. At 3 & 5 years old my kids love to sit and listen to a chapter or two, in a few years I'm sure they'll enjoy reading them on their own!

I've always loved this book, ever since I was a kid. I re-read it from time to time just to bring back the old days. It really brings to life the way people lived early in our countries history. The amount of work people did then just to have the basics of life never ceases to amaze me.

Requiered text for Biology lab. It’s a good guide showing you how to use statistics and how to present your findings in a professional manner.Small and compact. I got this loose leaf version so I only carry what I need and can add notes in between the pages accordingly.

I never buy anything unnecessary for my classes, it just creates unneeded clutter and stress for me. This book, however, takes the stress out of writing lab reports. It's on the pricey side, but it pays for itself. Even when I get stuck on writing a part of a report, I go back to this book and I find what I was doing wrong and/or how to go on. You can go through the different sections in the book to find something or you can refer to its very handy index at the back.Jan Pechenik even gives examples for every part of your report (e.g., she lets you see what an introduction looks like, what a bibliography looks like, etc.). This book is for the neophytes, giving them the basics and also for the professional scientist, telling them how to format their papers for peer-reviewed scientific journals.Ever since I've had this (I have the 5th edition, but I lost it, so I'm going to order this 6th edition...can't live without it!), it's really hard to get a bad grade on a lab report. I used to have problems with writing captions for my tables and figures, but now they actually are articulate without having my rambling tone embedded in there.

When I received this book I was kind of dissapointed with the size, I had never bought a book of the short guide series and I didn't realized how short they were. I was ready to return it when I started reading it, and I was really surprised. IT'S TOTALLY WORTH its price. I don't know how I managed to graduate without this book, it has great tips, very helpful biology examples (this is very important because you can relate what you're reading with what your professors are expecting in you biology courses), the technology tips have saved me a lot of time, now I'm more confident writing my theses.

This book was required by my course. I really didn't need to get it since I had taken previous biology courses that had already taught me the stuff that's in this book, but it seems to be a good book and a great reference tool.

This book may not be required (it wasnt for our neuro labs in medical school but highly recommended by the instructors) but it is a great atlas that reviews practically everything that you would need to know. The best assets of this atlas are the coronal and horizontal section pictures which are of great quality and its pal-weigert stains which as a medical student i will attest that it is rough to learn. This books helped a ton and I did very well. It is also a great tool to use to review pathways as it devotes pages just to pathways as well. The glossy high quality paper and images makes it very useful in a wet lab such as a neuro lab working with brains but I wouldnt reuse it after and so i bought a second just for my studies while the other stayed in the lab. Even though neurology is one of my favorite areas it gets tough and the mri, ct and all sorts of images really help. I cannot recommend this book enough even if you feel like it is too much i guarantee that you will use it more than any neuro text that would be required. I used this along with BRS neuroanatomy (which lacks images besides basic ones) and I soared through neuro and neuro labs. do yourself a favor and at least by a used copy, if even as an adjunct to wet lab.

This atlas has netted me some points on my exams, so I have to give it praise. I was scared about the black-and-white issue that people were talking about, but this book does have SOME color, just not on most of the cross sections. The tracts are indeed hard to follow, but once you figure out how to actually read the tracts, you're off to the races and this atlas helps you understand the amount of ridiculous detail needed to ace medical school exams (e.g., know the positions of the tracts at different levels of the spinal cord in cross section, in relation to one another, how they are topographically arranged, and the arteries that supply those areas)Although the structures are heavily abbreviated in the tract diagrams, I find it is very helpful in testing your knowledge; you will know that you have studied enough when you don't need to look at the legend. Giving away the structure names may encourage passive learning anywho! Best of luck! I haven't used any other atlas, so I can't comment on that. Works well for me.

This was a great atlas for the lab component of my medical neuroscience course. It did in fact contain good images that "stepped through" the brain in different sections. Overall, it was very useful.My complaints include the lack of color (not that the actual brain is very colorful, but a black and white image is a far cry from an actual section), the thickness of cuts (i.e., I would have liked to see thinner slices such that you have more sections per "step through" of the brain), and the mediocre quality of drawings (e.g., in the spinal cord section).

This book is quite distinct from other books we used for neurology.Many of the images from this book are not schematics; rather, it uses real MRI or histological sections.In addition, it has some very good schematic diagrams as well.I found the coronal and horizontal sections to be especially useful, because they come with the real images + real images schematized with lines.They also provide an online website code in the book, which allows you to look at everything in the book on the website.This is especially useful for the sake of compiling notes on your computer... I would imagine that professors teaching neuroanatomy would find these images very useful as well.

I bought this as a Kindle Book, which seemed great initially. For reading it is pretty easy - although I have been unable to change the highlight colors and the search function is really slow compared to iBooks and Adobe apps. Often my professors refer us to specific pages to read and in the kindle version I cannot look up those pages, which makes groups a little tough at times. (In the Netter iPad app, which I realize is not an e-book, the images are still labeled by the textbook pages. This was my first "ebook", so maybe it skewed my expectations.)People love this book, but I am not impressed yet. The images are nice, but finding information in the text is a challenge. Even using the index, which is not great, I often spend several minutes to find one structure or concept. I thought that the search function would deal with this, but it often brings back limited results and they are text only. Perhaps I just need to own this book for more than a few weeks...Overall, I would caution a buyer about buying this atlas as an ebook. Try to find a friend who already has it and try to use it.

This book was very helpful to me in learning all the complicated neural tracts. Very detailed and the multi-colored lines helped visually. I used it in med school but my bf, who was in his 5/6/7th year of neurosurgery residency at the time, was still referencing it so, it obviously was very helpful for more advanced neuroanatomy review purposes.

I bought this thinking it would help my understanding of neuroanatomy or at least help with some of the pictures, but it's just okay. It's very cluttered and it seems like they just crammed as much info in there as they could. The pictures are okay.. The drawn pictures are standard (chicken scratch compared to Netter) with colors that remind me of faded curtains in a house from the 60s. I will say some of the real sections compared with drawings are actually pretty good; it's really the only good quality of the book.

I like the book. It is simple, but in neuro/addictions I was only able to rent a PDF and no hardcopy. Compared to $$$$, I have been collecting basic texts for the same thing combined for $.
