I was pretty flummoxed when it came to what to feed my daughter when we started food. Between my mom's old fashioned insistence that we feel her rice cereal and a baby led weaning fad - I had no idea what was best for her. I should also mention that I do.not.cook. A friend let me borrow this book and after a day, I purchased my own copy. It completely demystifies everything - the recipes are quick and easy - and I feel like I have a grasp on what she needs and wants. It also will grow with us - and has great breakdowns of foods/ingredients and meals for various age groups (starting at 4mo and through the kid years.) She gives tips for additions, and for how to turn various dishes into an adult meal. My daughter hasn't liked everything - but thats okay, she doesn't have to! Its been an invaluable tool as we navigate through her first bites and into her first real meals.
I came back to write a review for this after recommending this book to my brother for his daughter who is about to start solids. My little girl is now 2 years old and eats whatever we put in front of her. Not only that, she is very enthusiastic about trying anything new. Everyone remarks on her grown up taste. She has older cousins who always have to have a special kids meal while she just eats whatever the grown ups are eating. She recently at a barbecue quite happily ate steamed clams dipped in butter instead of hot dogs - amazing the majority of adults there :) while the rest of her cousins stuck with hot dogs and chips. I attribute it to starting her out using this book for baby food then transitioning her to our meals and never offering her something different from what we were having. I think much of the issue with picky eating in children starts when they are very young and they don't get exposed to different flavors and tastes. These recipes are a great start for anyone who wants to raise an adventurous eater.
This book was on my daughter-in-law's Christmas Wish List. She loves it! As my twin grandsons moved on to pureed foods and finger foods, this book provided recipes with herbs and seasonings and ideas that were certainly new to me, as "baby food," and the boys LOVED it all! I'm sure getting this variety of foods and flavors at an early age is the reason they have yet to refuse trying (and usually liking) new foods. My amazing DIL would chop and mix and blend on the weekends, freeze in little cubes, and was set for the week. You would be hard-pressed to identify these 18-month olds as three-pound preemies!
This is THE best baby cookbook. I bought 4-5 baby cookbooks, including 'Getting to yum', 'baby gourmet', 'baby led weaning', and 'real baby food'. Of all the books, this is the one I go back to most often. My baby is now 13 months, she still hasn't outgrown this book. A definite buy.
This book has so much information about feeding your infant (and toddler). The recipes I've tried so far have all turned out great. I love the European approach to infant feeding. My favorite part (so much to love it's hard to pick what I love most about this book) is the tip section included with meal-type recipes, which explain how to make the meal into something the entire family can enjoy.
Amazing recipes to expand your little one's palette. Fantastic food for both adults and kids. Great progression for helping develop your little one's palette with simple ingredients. The dishes are so amazing papa is frequently accidently eating baby's food.
What a wonderful book! I started with the early recipes when my daughter was 6 months. She loved the variety and textures. Plus, I enjoyed making them! They are so delicious that I often just doubled the recipe and ate the same thing myself. This is my go-to gift for moms transitioning their babies to eating solids. My daughter is now 2 and eats everything! No need for a kids menu at home or at a restaurant! I wholeheartedly believe it came from exposing her to range of flavorful and nutritious food found in this book. She eats what we eat, and loves it. Bon appétit!
I love that this is full of unique purees that go way beyond apples and bananas. Reading through it I was amazed. My pediatrician told my husband and I that teaching them to eat different types of food with different flavors at a younger age will help prevent him from becoming a pickey eater. That being said, don't start them these until your baby is the right age (6 months +).
