The book is fine. I have read it in 2 days. If the writer publish a new version and add some more questions, I will also buy the new one. The writer seems very experienced in ios world. At least, the book teaches you the import points in ios. But, some of the answers are very short.

Very nice book, besides preparing for an interview it gives you a lot of insight in some areas that are not familiar to all developers.

Perfect for interview study. Short and sweet; to-the-point.

A few annoying grammatical issues and a small amount of redundancy aside, his short book is well worth a read--and then a second read--for any iOS developer going through interviews or just wanting to stay sharp. This was one of many resources I studied before my own interviews. I didn't necessarily get asked these particular questions but having gone through the book gave me confidence that I'd considered most or all of the significant areas an iOS developer needs to understand. The questions and answers are a mix of Objective-C and Swift. And yes, I got the job :)

(Background): Emily Post was an American journalist whose seminal work ETIQUETTE IN SOCIETY, IN BUSINESS, IN POLITICS, AND AT HOME was first published in 1922. While nobody today would refer to it for advice on getting along in society (however construed), it remains a fascinating read for its insights into 1920's New York City social life and socializing, and for its not inconsiderable use of humor in getting the author's advice across. Emily Post founded the Emily Post Institute in 1946, and under those auspices EMILY POST'S ETIQUETTE, NINETEENTH EDITION, has now appeared. Although it is a convention in publishing to proclaim each new model of an ongoing work "fully" or "completely" revised, this one is not -- not could it or should it be. Specifically, this one shows direct lineage from the Seventeenth Edition of 2004. (The intervening Eighteenth edition dates from 2011 -- these updates appear with some regularity.) The new Nineteenth shows emergence of two of Emily's great-great-grandchildren (yes, two greats), Lizzie Post and Daniel Post Senning, as sole authors. That's an awful lot of lineage but then, it has been 95 years since the original ETIQUETTE appeared.On the whole I think the new Nineteenth is a good and useful book. Readers will find the same good sense as in predecessor editions with advice in how to converse with new acquaintances in both social and business settings (it forthrightly advocates a healthy dose of "small talk" in the beginning), and the whole huge field of behavior in and around weddings receives its due. Happily, an illustration in the book showed me, finally, how to fit my writing to the now-dominant “informal” type of folded card, should I wish to depart from the old “Monarch”-sized sheet that served me so well for so many years. What is notable is the larger field given to electronic social media like Facebook, what behaviors to emulate and which to avoid, and better yet, why. I was a bit surprised to see that the rules on when and when not to remove a hat required a full table, when it's pretty apparent that little has changed: women who wear fancy hats don't take them off except to avoid blocking someone's view or for their own comfort; women who wear the nearly ubiquitous visored "baseball" cap, just like men, take them off when indoors. (Granted, "indoors" in an era of domed stadiums and climatized shopping malls needs extra construction.)This latest book is going to be very helpful to those who use it; however, like most such etiquette guides it is written from the perspective of its authors, therefore aimed mainly at young adults or married young adults with families. It is gentle and kind, and written with a smile, does not shy away from most hot-button topics yet contains remarkably little humor. I miss the old general-purpose guides like MISS MANNERS' GUIDE TO EXCRUCIATINGLY CORRECT BEHAVIOR (a book that so embodied humor even its title is a bit humorous) -- or, for that matter, the original 1922 Emily Post ETIQUETTE with its endearingly annoying types like "Mr. Gotrox" or "Mrs. Toplofty" who exemplify bad behavior whatever their intentions. Lately a kind of alt-field of etiquette books has emerged, the kind written for well-intentioned people who occasionally use the "F" word, so to speak -- those have LOTS of humor, much of it sardonic. Sadly, none of the literature I've consulted speaks directly to a concern of mine: When did it become rude to telephone neighbors and friends spontaneously at home, well before bedtime? My purpose is not to proclaim how old-fashioned or obstinate I may be, but simply to avoid causing pain -- and what I can do about it. This is supposed to be a central concern of etiquette.A note that did not influence my rating: I ordered and paid for the thumb-indexed version, but instead received the "smooth" one..

I have the Emily Post Etiquette 17th Edition, and the 19th Edition. I am very disappointed with the 19th Edition. Compared to the 17th Edition it lacks a LOT of valuable information. I am continually having to refer back to the 17th edition to fill in the blanks. For example: In regards to sending Birth Announcements on the arrival of a new baby, the 19th addition says to do so, but NOT WHEN! The 17th Edition tells you that as soon as the baby is named, you should send out birth announcements. There are many other omissions like this in the 19th Edition that was put together by a "younger" generation. I recommend you get the 17th Edition. I am not familiar with the 18th Edition.

As society becomes increasingly coarse, it is best to separate and distinguish yourself from the rabble. If you want to know how to deal with conflict, how to properly handle correspondence, deal with gossip and dine with finesse, this is what you need. It is more than saying, thank you and please, it is a guide book that will help you navigate the elite circles that you will find yourself in and advance your career. What you don’t know CAN hurt you; but knowing the language, the code of the elite will help you, and Emily Post’s guide is one of the top five etiquette books you should buy without question.

It has answers for even my trickiest, most specific questions. A wonderful resource. Well organized for easy reference.

This is clearly written, but quite a large book. So far, about 60 pages in, I love it.

Well, this book looked like it would be a great dot-to-dot book with a more advanced level of detail than most but when I opened it up I was rather shocked at how small the dots and the numbers are. They are so small that the dots are about 1/4 the size of a .05mm pencil lead. And not only is the ink extremely light, the ink color changes with every 100 dots which I found very distracting. The designs in this book are of an abstract style which further adds to the confusion. The criss-crossing of the lines back and forth on top of each other are very confusing. I worked two of the puzzles and wasn't interested in doing any more because of my inability to see the dots/numbers. Not only did I have to have glasses, I had to have a magnifier as well to be able to see the numbers. I have included several photos demonstrating the size of the print and the two puzzles I completed to illustrate the confusing abstract design. All in all, this book wasn't really for me. Someone who is very near-sighted would probably enjoy this book more than I could.

I would have given it a full five stars, but on at least 3 (that I've gotten to--there may be more), there are a few image/dots that didn't print on the edge...like it was too big and lines/dots outside of the edge just weren't there. It's only about 6-7 dots on each of them, but it's enough to throw me off a bit and knock off a star.Aside from the printing snafu, I like it a lot. The pages are nice and thick, and the color of the dots changes every 100 dots, making it easier to keep your place. Some of the comments complain that the numbers are too small--they really are small, but the pages are large and the author does a great job of making all 1000+ dots viewable.Don't expect an up-close viewing to be overly pretty--the dots are organized so that you end up with a picture that looks like it's been sketched. Not bad, but (as the description says), much better a little further away. It is pretty fun to see what seem to be odd scribbles turn into a cool image.

i have purchased all 5 of this series and find them to be fun and fullfiling as a pastime to while away the lazy afternoons of retirement. hey if you can't see the dots, use a magnifying glass. i started with this book. did not get the full secret trick about these till i did the warhol picture. now if i remember about 6 or7 of the different series and numbers all converged in the chin area. thats when i saw that when done properly drawing a line between numbers will not obscure any numbers you will need for later. you could have seen the light go on over my head.now the other thing i discovered is a ruler when you dot to dot glasses or a building, but free hand for faces animals and most lines under two inches. it's not like we are being graded on this perusal. this is a fun thing to do. easy on the body and you can keep the television off and show your grandkids a hobby that does not need thumbs and a screen to stare at.

This dot to dot book is VERY challenging!!! I finally finished my first one but it took me forever. The numbers are very tricky....because u never know where the next number might turn out. I am nearsighted and can see really well up close even though I am over 60 years old. I finally had to use a magnifying glass and when your numbers get higher and higher, you can lose your place so easily when you look for the next number. Also it helps to use a mechanical penci with .09 lead and have ordered a Tombow pencil eraser to erase with! I had so many smudges with a regular pencil. This book is my new hobby now and I love it!

this kind of dot to dot makes you work harder but I enjoy the challenge. It is amazing how all of that drawing back and forth in such crazy ways can actually capture the intended picture and they seem to come alive.....I do have to use a flashlight because the numbers are way too small. It takes a little longer to work a page but I get tickled when I can see it coming together.

This dot-to-dot is a lot of fun and the designs are very detailed and intricate. The icons are great and we love to guess who it is the further the drawing gets. My only drawback is the numbers are extremely small and some of the colors are harder to see than others. Other than those two things, these series are highly recommended if you enjoy passing the time by connecting the dots. These puzzles are a little bit harder on the dot-to-dot spectrum if you like a challenge!!

It was easier to find the numbers than I thought it would be because each set of a hundred numbers has a different color (200s red, 300s green), that helped a lot. It is easy to just zone out and relax- it takes just enough concentration that my brain is occupied but not so much that I start to get anxious. The big sturdy pages are nice. The only reason that it is not 5 stars is that the pictures (even when you are being really careful with your lines) aren't exactly masterworks.

I'm always looking for coloring and other activity books for "adults" so was thrilled to find this! Each picture probably takes a leisurely hour to complete, and in many ways connecting the dots is much more relaxing than coloring because there are no choices to make! The results are pretty cool -- all of the designs are really great you will be pretty pleased with the results. Thinking of making a cheeky gallery wall using my favorite completed portraits from this book.

Her translation is a moving reading experience the Gita is intended to be.The drawback of many English translations is that they attempt to sound lofty and righteous. Therefore, many of these translations, even those recently translated, employ archaic Victorian English flourishes. You know, you’ve seen them. These translations use manners of speech such as “O, Arjuna,” “O King of Bharatas,” and use “thee,” “thou.” These literary devices ruin the reading experience because this is just not how people speak, and it gets in the way of appreciating the beauty of this poem.Ms. Patton, on the other hand, uses none of these anachronisms in her translation. The Bhagavad Gita is poetry, and Patton is a published poet, and thus she knows how to craft a simple phrase in simple, elegant language for maximum effect.Old School translations also display a lack of understanding on the message of the Gita. Reading the Gita is such a compelling experience because the message is so simple. Patton’s translation here is remarkable because it so accurately reflects the divine simplicity of the language used in its message.Ms Patton has provided an excellent introduction, with bibliography and her translation sparingly provide footnotes.“Bhagavad Gita” means “Song of God.” Ms. Patton’s translation is indeed the “Song of God.”

Five stars does not do this book justice. It is a singularly beautiful story and one of the world's most important works of philosophy and spirituality. But more than that, in this edition the author manages to achieve the nearly impossible; Patton translates the original poem into English verse that is remarkable fluid, readable, and graceful.If you have any curiosity about the world or any interest in the fundamental nature of humanity, read this.

This is the only translation of The Bhagavad Gita that I've read, so as a translation I have nothing to compare it to. I can say that it was an easy read, and I was able to finish it in one sitting. As a work of literature, the translation was smooth and poetic, and I really enjoyed reading it. I really couldn't put it down. As a religious/spiritual work, I found it to be very enlightening, and it touched on many aspects of one's spiritual and daily life. I'm glad that I read it, and I think that any spiritual person regardless of their religion will find it useful. I only took one star away, because of my own ignorance. Since, this is the only translation that I've read, I don't know if there is a better version out there.- GB

Reaching into our souls this timeless work from thousands of years ago makes us remember who we truly are and shows us the way to awake from suffering. The path to freedom could be made plainer or simpler. Every line causes one to pause to sink into the blissful words.

To me this seems like a great translation of a book that's regarded by many to be holy scripture. Arjuna's inner conflict most definitely can be related to a given person's conscience trying to do what is right in what appears to be a paradoxical existence. Krishna's divine point of view sheds light on and puts this in perspective. This one is worth reading again and again.

I own two copies of the Bhagavad Gita. I enjoy this one more. I enjoy it more because of the intoduction which is basically college lecture or essay. You do not have to read the introduction to enjoy this book (as I enjoy my other copy which has no introduction) but, it adds to the reading of it by adding context and a clearer explanation of this translation.

A fantastic dialogue between a warrior prince (Arjuna) and God incarnate (Kishna) about fighting the good fight; right action, refusal of selfishness from motive by performing duties to our true Self, not ourselves.One of the great books of Vedanta philosophy, Mahatma Gandhi referred to is as "the book par excellence for the seeker of Truth" in his autobiography.This translation by Sir Edwin Arnold from the Sanskrit into traditional English-type prose is considered by many to be the best translation available, and I agree. I have read numerous translations, and none have the beauty, fullness, and informative extolling of virtue for living expressed more artistically.

Juan Mascaro's translation remains simply the best.The English is clear, the words are considered, and the balance of the sentences is simply marvellous.It reminds one of the simple, balanced writing of the King James Bible. My feeling is that the way Mascaro writes English is strongly influenced by his Catalan heritage, yet the exactitude of his prose reflects his long association with Cambridge.In my opinion, comparing several other translations, Mascaro's translation delivers what is most important-- the spirit of the message in simple, clear english.Jacques Joubert

Most importantly covers logistical, organizational and budgetary considerations in creating transmedia narrative whilst always relating back to the story and the impact on audience, pointing out a huge lot of things that someone coming from story telling in just the one medium would never have even considered. This installment of the Dave Robicheaux series starts in the Katrina/Rita damage. I have enjoyed all of James Lee Burke's books. This one is not one of the best (Black Cherry Blues, for me), but is still just really good reading for me. The "bad guys" are not as creepy as other books, but really the villain in this one was the weather and the destruction wrought by the hurricanes. The people were almost supporting cast. It was recommended to me to read these in time sequence, which I have mostly been doing. I will finish the whole series. I do not completely agree with some critics who say that Burke's books become formulaic and predictable. They are an extension of him. His command of the English language is remarkable and I will eventually read every book he has written!

Southern Lousiana cannot be depicted in a book by someone who visited there once. James Lee Burke provides one of the most satisfying glimpses into a unique culture, dark practices, strange and unpronouceable foods, stirring music, a world dripping with booze, twisted by crime, and inhabited by impoverished people who live in the clutches of a culture that has produced mardigras, boudin, etoufee, and zydeco.Voodoo, drugs, sex, gambling, and names for common fish that no one has ever heard before; those things make up Southern Louisiana. But it's more than a culture that comprises races of such wonderous mix that music, food, jazz funerals, and the like are mere products of the creative minds of a myriad carefree souls.I applaud Burke for realizing that the story of Lousians is not a linear telling of history and present practices, or a before and after Katrina comparison, or painting a bleak picture of a subordinated people. No say me, it is a song sung by sea birds, to the rhythm of falling rain and storm winds, to the beat of large fish jumping for bugs and falling back into the water, and listened to by the ears of the soul amid the aroma of fried fish, boiling crabs, crawfish, and blood sausage.If you want to hear the song and experience one of the most descriptive and colorful literary journeys of your life, read not only this one, but all of Burke's novels. There are many people to hate, those that turn your stomach, those that you'd like to twist thir heads off, and those that you can't hate no matter how hard you try.One more thing. Not many authors can crawl inside the heads of sychopaths, an alcaholic, a Viet Nam Vet that has seen too much, a killer, rapist, a torturor, an ex-cop, and an impulsive partner that seems out of control. Burke lets it all hang out with these personas; and he does it like a pro or lay psychiatrist.You must read this book, let the language become an intregal part of the backdrop and get past it, be prepared to stay up late, and have great fun in the process.

”New Orleans was a song that went under the waves.” Above all else, this is a gripping tale of how Hurricanes Katrina and Rita tried to rip away the soul of New Orleans. This has to be my favorite in the Robicheaux series by far. It has depth, a paralyzing taste of reality and the best villain yet! Ronald Bledsoe will not be forgotten easily. Beyond Dave, Molly, Alafair and Clete, even the sub-plots with Bertrand Melancon and Otis Baylor carry their own pathos and intrigue. This is one of the very best!

With Dave Robicheaux telling the story you can actually feel , see and smell Louisiana . You see everything through his eyes and his heart . Clete Purcell is an open wound that never heals . The love between the two friends keep both their wounds closed. Molly and Alafair make you part of their family . Every character becomes alive . You see how they live and good or bad , you understand them through Dave , especially through his heart and integrity ..But as Clete would say , it's only rock and roll .

Books about the Deep South are some of my most favorite to read--the heat and humidity always seem to just seep right through the pages with their passion and longing and this book is no exception.Dave Robicheaux is a Louisiana police detective trying to sort out a murder, a burglary and a variety of other crimes that are somehow connected. As Dave is trying to sort through the mess, evil comes into his own home and threatens his best friend, bail bondsman Clete, and adopted daughter. This book was the 17th in the series but I really didn't feel like I was missing anything.The book is set during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. While I have read many books about this disaster as a focus or even setting, none made the horror of the crime spree aftermath so very real. The description of the destruction of New Orleans is what struck me most strongly about this book. It seemed to read like a tragedy, almost an ode, to a grand, beautiful lady whose prime time had somehow been robbed of her before her time. It was a police/procedural mystery that felt as if I were riding right along in Dave's cruiser. It's so realistic and gritty you can feel the sand and dirt swirling around in your brain. The mystery is full of sharp twists and turns and while sometimes these books are too technical for me, this one fit just right.And, just when you think you know who did it, you find out you didn't even know what 'it' is!I always love to discover a new author and a new detective to fall for--Dave Robicheaux is now on my "Most Wanted List"--I suppose I've have to go back and read all 16 before and the others since! A small price to pay for a great read.
